Some happy new owners....

Over the years, we have sold a lot of horses. This page is dedicated to these people who have chosen our horses, and would like to share their stories.

Dear Mr. Millar,

We completed Day One of the Old Dominion Show and Baby (2004 B-37) shined. She took 1st in Perch grade mares over 3 yrs, reserve champion grade mare, 3rd in costume class and 1st place in draft horse barrel racing done at walk/trot. Our trainer did this and it was a first time for Baby. She hugged those barrels almost as good as a QH! And it is only in the last two weeks that she's been under saddle again in 10 months as we've been primarily driving. This was her first big show and she was remarkably calm, taking in all the other horses, sights and sounds. An elderly gentleman approached us after the halter class and asked me questions about her bloodline, training and such and parted with "A fine mare you have." His wife then came up to me and thanked me for speaking with him. It turned out the man bred and exhibited champion Percherons for many years but now well into his 80's, is not actively involved. To receive that compliment from him meant a lot.

Here are a couple of photos we took at the show.

Well, I was having fun with her, never having trained a horse in my 50 years. She's unflappable because of all the things we did with ropes, bells, beach balls, balloons, tarps, radios (she used to wear my MP3 player with the little ear buds in her ears.), walking under trees, through fields with knee-high grass and deer bouncing around. When it came time to do the more serious work when she hit 2-3 yrs, I was determined to make some people eat their words. There were two older guys that helped with basic ground driving training that admired her because she was so easy. She was hooked up as a 4-abreast to do discing with maybe 10 hours of forecart team time by Bob, who has been training farm Percherons for 60 years and he said he'd have bought her on the spot if I'd agreed. Word got around to some of the club that I had a pretty good mare, thanks to Bob. Until this year, I had no means of taking her to any events. Now I do as my trainer is boarding her now, has fallen in love with her and we've been to a handful of plow days, ride and drives. And her winning those ribbons Saturday... icing on the cake. She drew so many compliments, stallions prancing by her and she just stood like a statue. Loud noises, crying babies... nothing was phasing her. Next year, maybe we'll be ready to compete for the Versatility Award. Can you tell I'm really proud of this horse?

Thanks for everything, Mitch.

Hi!,

It's been a while since I have emailed you but I just wanted to check in and tell you again how pleased I am with Lily...B3 from the 2004 crop (Tequila baby).

Lily is 3 1/2 years old now and is donig really well! I haven't gotten to ride her as much as I'd like but hopefully I will have more time this Spring and Summer. I plan to show her in a few local shows this summer. I will let you know how we do! I attached a couple of pictures taken today in the fall foilage. As you can see, she's turned into a little beauty! (Even if I am a little biased! haha)

But with the holidays approaching, I just wanted to say hello again and wish everyone a wonderful holiday season! Hope everyone is doing well (including 4 legged friends!)

Dear Mr. Millar,

Here are some of my pics. He is just a sweetie, has a wonderful temperment, easy to work around. Does not have any vices at all. I am clipping him, bathing him, etc. I have been on his back. I am breaking him with nothing other than the bosel, no bits. I could not have asked for a better boy. He is just like his half brother Freedom. Both have the wonderful temperments (must come from Son), and are easy to work with. We are extremely pleased with both horses we have gotten from your farm. Thanks so very much. Keep up the good work there.

Thanks for everything, Mitch.

Dear Mr. Millar,

I own one of your 2004 foals from Mare 40 and sire Tom. "Baby" has drawn many compliments for her size (teamsters like her compact body), temperment, soundness, and overall willingness to do anything. She'll pull a cart or team up to drag a harrow and is also ridden. We just started getting out this year to local driving competitions and people ask me where I got her, how much I will sell her for or when she'll be bred. Not happening. I give them your website address. Additionally, Monique Bernardo has a 2003 Perch mare from your ranch, Mocha. She is now an accomplished jumper (3.0 ft) and schooling horse. I've attached photos of both horses.

Dear MJ Millar Ranch

Tigar
Tigar and her owner

I just plugged in my horses name and found you. I met Tigar (RLM Elegant Tiger) when he was a 2 year old. I just wanted to say that he is an amazing horse, very laid back and easy to train. I started him in western pleasure, then reining, cattle penning, and he was also used as a rodeo ranch girl horse. Right now I am giving lessons to kids, he is so laid back and honest, and all my little students feel safe on him, considering he is one of the bigger horses at the barn. I manufacture horse blankets so he is always trying on new cloths to see how they wear. I see you have a picture of Tigar as a yearling on your site, I thought you might want to see some new pictures of him as a 10 year old.

Dixie

This is Dixie. She is now 3 years old and the greatest horse I have ever owned. Her mom was mare 10-99 and her dad is Ringo. She is now 16.1 hands and still growing. She has the best personality and is the most level headed, great minded horse. I would recommend MJ Millar Ranch to everyone that is looking for a quality horse. If I was to buy another baby, this is definately where I would go. Thank you so much for such a great horse

As a hunter jumper trainer, I, for many years, bred my own mares and stood stallions in order to have a reliable source of quality prospects at affordable prices.  After seeing the quality available from MJ Millar I sold my mares and got out of the breeding business.  I can not produce better youngsters and certainly not for the price.   I have brokered many foals for clients and all are satisfied, happy customers.  Whether it is hunters, jumpers, dressage or field hunters, MJ Millar stock can not be beaten, in my opinion.  I am gladly continuing to purchase foals each year and plan to for many years to come.   Transactions are flawless, management helpful and risk is minimal.  It is the only way to go!

Thought I'd send pics of our 2003 colt.  Had many offers on him.  He will be used for our limited sporthorse breeding program.  He is 15.3 at 22 months.

I have one of Apache's colts from last year, who is called Laredo -- although it has now been shortened to Larry!  He is one of the best foals I have ever gotten to work with; already he is further along than most of the other weanlings, and even many of the two year olds I have trained.  Larry leads, lunges, wears a pony saddle and bridle, crosses water, goes on trail walks, walks on the road... you name it, he'll do it.  He learned how to open up my tack room door, which has a normal household door knob on it; and then, he learned how to lock himself in!!  He looks as though he will be a big boy too, vet and farrier estimate 15.3hh.  I am very impressed with the quality of foal this stallion throws.

Thanks,

Chelsea

My 2002 Perch cross gelding "Sid" came to me from MJ Millar Ranch in the fall of 2002.  He's out of the Percheron stallion "Dick" - who is known for throwing nice temperaments and Sid is no exception.  He's one of very few horses who just by seeing the way he initially looked at me I knew we'd get along great.  And we have.  I've handled a number of youngsters by now, and he's at the top of the list for easiness and kindness.  Everyone who meets him has to comment on his great character (and handsome looks).  He's 2 now, and I just put the first few light rides on him and he handled it like a champ.  We haven't quite decided what exactly his future holds - but there are lots of possibilities!

 Princess Kellie

This photo is provided by Richard.

This letter was written to our good friend Richard from Essex, Ontario, and is about a filly that Richard bought from the Ranch in 2002. With permission from Mark and Julie, Richard has sent this letter to us.

Rick,

Well, I know you’ve seen Kellie recently and can vouch for how beautiful she has become but I wanted to take this time to let you know a few other things about her and how she is progressing.  As I literally bought her off of the back of your trailer when you innocently brought her over to visit one day, we really didn’t know that much about her and I had no idea what we were in for.  That same day, when we bought her, Mark actually trimmed her hooves, all four, with ease on our cement patio behind our house.  She hadn’t even seen the barn, her stall, the other horses or anything at that point. Needless to say, we started to develop a really warm feeling about her and I knew I’d just purchased a wonderful new friend.

Since that time, she has aged beautifully and has the most beautiful roan like coat that I have ever seen.  Red up to her knees (like her Momma) and Grey everywhere else with some large dapples (that’s where Daddy comes in).  I figure if she continues to grow at the rate she is as her hind end has once again taken over her withers, she’ll finish around 16.2 or better.  She’s got legs as straight as arrows and a trot and canter gait that makes me wish all of my horses moved that way.  We can’t wait to break her this winter and have already tackled lunging, saddling and all of the other basics.  She’s a pro at having her hooves done and we have trimmed her the “Cytek” way as she will wear the Cytek shoes once we get her out and about.  We have many comments each week from our students and friends that see her and they are all basically amazed at how she has turned out.  She’s very level headed, beautiful,  has no vices and loves children.

In closing, Mark and I and Ashley would like to thank you for bringing Princess Kellie into our lives.  She was handled right from the get go.  No doubt you’ll see her on the dressage circuit one day soon.

Thanks again.

I am soooo impressed with this little (not so little anymore!) filly!  Legacy has been amazing! She has the most incredible disposition and overall personality! She (even as a yearling) is the perfect horse for beginners because she is so patient and willing with everything, she is also very gentle and loving. She has beautiful movement and some have said she would excel in dressage. She loves to jump, too (she has jumped over large barrels when she is turned out in the arena without any effort at all) and  when she feels like a good run, she can make any horse eat her dust! (she has caught up with one of the off track thoroughbreds at a full gallop). Her color is unique as well - she is not exactly black, but a sort of rich brown almost like a very dark yet rich liver chestnut color with lots of highlights in her mane and tail. I love all the colors in her coat! I have had no trouble doing anything with this filly, she is fearless.

KAOS Frosty Flint 2000 AQHA Gelding, Sired by KAOS Razzledazzle

I just thought I would drop you a note to let you know how Kaos is doing.

I have enclosed a photo of him taken this July.  He is one of the best horses I have owned in a long time and I have owned many horses.  He is so sweet and kind and easy to train.  I have had many offers to purchase on him since I have owned him but won't part with such a special horse.

I bought him one week before I lost my great Quarter Horse Gelding to Colic and he has filled the void left by such a devastating loss.  I wasn't looking for a horse for myself when I bought him but ended up coming home with him anyway.  He is part of our family and I hope to have many years of fun with him. He has taken to team penning like a pro and under english tack impresses as well.

I will no doubt be looking for another Kaos Razzledazzle offspring in the future. All the best to you and thanks again for allowing me to purchase this great gelding from you last year.  Richard Stuart did a fabulous job training him and I credit alot of his wonderful manners to his good start.

Thanks again.

I am interested in buying a foal by Designs in Black this year. I currently have a 2003 foal by this stallion. Attached is his picture. He has turned into a very nice foal - straight legs with great feet and a very sweet attitude.

Please let me know if you will have any sport horse crosses by Designs in Black this year.

I just wanted to update you on my 2002 foal, Duke.  His sire is Dick.  He is doing great!  We just completed in our first HDT (horse driving trial) last month and we had such a good time!  He’s a very special horse, well suited for riding and driving.  He has the nicest temperament.  I’m very grateful to have him.   I’ve enclosed a couple of pictures of him from the show.

Thanks!!!!!

MJ Millar Ranch Horse Transport - Testimonials

A big thank you to you, MJ Millar Ranch and John for the wonderful job he did in bringing our three fillies to Mancos! He is a character and a joy, and someone who has a way with horses, for sure. Our fillies came off the trailer as if the whole journey had been a breeze--quite a testament to John and his knowledge of hauling horses.

Thanks again for bringing our horses to us safely. They have important jobs to do working with youth at risk in our programs at Medicine Horse.

Thanks for giving them a good start and safe journey.

Thanks for the help with my three Arabian stallions. I couldn't have brought them home from Iowa to Canada without your help! I don't think anyone can touch the price. Very affordable. Once again, thanks!

I just wanted to say thank you for the quick service in getting my blind mare to Kansas.  I also wanted to let you know how great John, the hauler, was with me and with my horse.  His genuine concern for the horse was much appreciated.  I will most definitely use you next time I need a hauler.  Thanks again.

Your driver, John, brought a Belgian to us today.  We just wanted to tell you that John was kind, polite and very helpful.  He was very good with our horse and we truly appreciate it.  The trailer was clean and well- kept and our horse was well-cared for on her trip.  We want to thank you and extend our offer of a lay-over spot at our farm, should John or any of your other drivers need it.  We will recommend your services to anyone who inquires.  Oh yeah, and you guys have really cute accents, too.

Thank you again for your courteous service and care of our horse.

John just delivered my horse from Ridgeville, MB, this afternoon. I just wanted to say thank you -- she showed up in good shape. John did a great job.  I feel that I was treated in a professional and courteous manner. It is nice to know that I made the right choice in going with MJ Millar Ranch to haul my horse. If I need another horse hauled in the future I will be giving you a call.

Maggie and Dave

My girls arrived a little before 11:00 pm last night.  They are settling in quite well and don't appear to be suffering any ill effects from their long trip.  Please convey my thanks to John for taking such great care of them despite all the problems he encountered with bad weather and road closures.  I really appreciate him looking after them so well. If I'm ever in the market to move a horse again, I'll be sure to give you a call!

Thanks for everything.

Maureen
